91014 Scopello - Castellammare del Golfo
The Ficarella cave is undoubtedly one of the most enchanting underwater caverns in the Mediterranean.
The entrance of this cave is a 14 m at the base of a cliff. The dive starts amongst the rocks at the entrance Sea daisies and false coral cover the outer cave walls. Entering through the wide passage you come across luminescent clouds of shrimps finding refuge in the fissures of the rocks, annoyed by divers lights.
At the back of the enormous cavern' after the entrance has become a distant blue haze, the cave roof becomes a mirror. The water becomes cool and the rocks white and lunar.
Pass up through the mirror and you'll surface in an air pocket, set deep in the cliff. This "chamber" about 20 m. wide, is a secret vault, rich in stalactites and calcareous incrustations.
